F1 | Hulkenberg: “We have a lot of work to do”

Nico Hulkenberg is more excited than ever ahead of its debut in 2017 in the cockpit of the Renault. There are great expectations about him and the new season but also great doubts about a team that has never convinced until now.

This is why the German rider has repeatedly preached great work and a lot of humility to pursue slow but constant improvement: “I believe that next year will be a trial year – he declared in January – we have to be realistic, 2016 was quite difficult. I hope that things will be better in 2017, but don't expect us to be in the top six or top 10 straight away. These things take time."

Work seems to be the only recipe for the team to make a definitive leap in quality: "Now at Renault we have a lot to do – he told Racer magazine – but it's stimulating."

The experience in Force India will be more fundamental than ever to provide further stimuli. And it is precisely from his old team that Hulkenberg would like to learn lessons.

“Some top teams have so many resources at their disposal that sometimes, given the complexity of this sport, they take the wrong path. I believe Force India was successful because it stuck to a few principles and focused on the most important aspects."
