F1 | Hamilton: “We have to keep pushing to catch those ahead of us”
The seven-time world champion satisfied with the podium obtained on his home track of Silverstone: "Good battle with Norris, congratulations to him and McLaren"
Lewis Hamilton finds the podium again in his home race at Silverstone. The Mercedes standard bearer concluded the event in the best possible way British Grand Prix obtaining third position after a complicated start. The seven-time champion managed, taking advantage of the Safety Car regime (due to the withdrawal of Kevin Magnussen's Haas) to change tyres, to snatch the podium from Oscar Piastri's McLaren but was unable to do anything against his compatriot Lando Norris. In fact, he managed to maintain second place despite having the hard tyres, compared to Hamilton who had the soft tyres.
“Silverstone once again manages to provide a fantastic crowd and it's the best of the whole year – declared Hamilton in the interview at the end of the race – I want to congratulate Norris and McLaren: it's my family, it's where I have started. We had a good battle. the start wasn't very good, but with the medium tires I went the distance. This is very positive knowing that we are not very far away and we have to keep pushing and maybe we will be able to catch those in front."
Hamilton, discussing the duel with Norris, added: “We had good performance in the low-speed corners, but he ran away at Turn 15. It was a good battle, I lacked a bit of speed on the straight. I started seventh and finished third, the team did a fantastic job."
