F1 | Hamilton contemplates retirement after Abu Dhabi 2021

The 2021 season finale is an open wound in the memories of Lewis Hamilton. The Englishman himself, discussing with various media, recalled how after that bitter disappointment he even thought about retiring from racing. The seven-time world champion in fact underlined the bitterness suffered in the final race in Abu Dhabi, where he lost the title after being overtaken decisively by Max Verstappen on the last lap with all the controversy generated by the decisions taken by the race direction after the Nicholas Latifi's Williams accident.

But then, as Hamilton himself admitted, the initial thoughts gave way to rationality by deciding to stay in the Circus.

Lewis Hamilton's last victory in Formula 2021 dates back to 1, obtained on the city track of Jeddah. Two years later the Englishman continues to be stuck at 103 successes, conditioned by a single-seater which in the last two years has lost competitiveness with the transition to ground effect cars.

“Have I thought about retiring? Of course, yes – said Hamilton, quoted by Motorsport – There were so many things going through my head in that period. But I think one of the worst things you can do is make decisions based on emotions, because when you're emotional and in the heat of that moment, more often than not, you're not going to make the best decisions."

The Mercedes standard bearer then said: “The emotions were strong, it was a really, really difficult period. I just had to wait for things to calm down, for my thoughts to be clear and for me to be able to make the right decisions."
