F1 | Haas, Magnussen and Grosjean stop in Q1 blocked by errors and traffic

Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean's qualifying ends with Q1. The two Haas drivers failed to make the cut for Q2 and will start tomorrow from sixteenth and eighteenth position respectively. There are therefore four Ferrari-powered cars that fail to get into Q2. Many drivers, especially those in the mid-table, were hoping for rain, which threatened the course of qualifying today and this is precisely why the action on the track was concentrated in Q1, creating traffic that blocked the two Haas drivers.

"I think the car had the potential to get into Q2 today. My lap on the second set of tires was exceptional, I think we finished in P13. I had good feelings with the car. On the last attempt, with fresh tyres, I was really convinced that we would get into Q2 – explained Romain Grosjean, eighteenth – I think we didn't time it well and I wasn't able to make my attempt. My tires were practically gone before turn one and that was the end of our qualifying. We got screwed and lost our chance".

Kevin Magnussen, however, narrowly missed out on Q2 and will instead start on the eighth row next to Nicholas Latifi.

"It's always difficult on this track, but I think we expected something more here. I found traffic in the last sector on my last attempt. I just missed out on fifteenth place, and this day would have been completely different. It's easy to talk in hindsight, but it's gone now, we'll start in sixteenth position and see how it goes. Seeing the car's performance in the race in Austria, I think starting from the front would have helped us. It's not easy to start from P16, but on other occasions I've also managed to score points starting from that position. We hope for a race full of surprises, perhaps some Safety Cars, or rain, would increase our chances".
