F1 | US GP, watch out for the sensors in turn 19: times canceled in qualifying and penalties in the race
Multiple laps were invalidated during the first two free practice sessions
In this year's United States Grand Prix, sensors were positioned outside turn 19 of COTA: anyone who exceeds the limits of the circuit will have their time canceled during qualifying, while in the race the white demarcation line can only be crossed for three times (with as many warnings given to the "smart" driver), while the fourth time the penalty will be triggered in time to be served either after the checkered flag or in the pits in the event of a pit stop. These sensors were necessary, given that it is very common for drivers to go beyond the limit, i.e. the white line placed outside the green mat, and if it is exceeded even with just a portion of the right tyres, sanctions will automatically be triggered (in qualifying, as happened during the two free practice sessions, ed.) or warnings (in the race). A sensible choice, given the hostility of creating circuits with asphalted escape routes the size of airports rather than putting grass or gravel.
