Twelfth position for Carlos Sainz in free practice for the Turkish Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver concentrated more on race pace, given that he will start from last position on Sunday due to the fourth power unit fitted this weekend, just as Leclerc did in Sochi. For this reason, therefore, a different day for the Spaniard, who tried different settings on his SF21 to appear on the grid in two days at the latest. Tomorrow he will probably only do Q1, replicating what his teammate did two weeks ago.

F1 | Free practice analysis in Türkiye: Hamilton flies, surprises Leclerc

“Obviously it was a slightly different Friday than usual for us – Sainz explained – since we went out on track already knowing that on Sunday we will start from the back of the grid after the power unit change. We made sure that everything was working properly, trying different set-up solutions, and we ran with soft and medium compound tyres, focusing mainly on long runs. I must admit that it was unusual to never attempt a fast lap on low fuel, but our aim for the weekend is to recover positions during the Grand Prix. The car seems competitive and the track has changed a lot compared to last year: the grip level is high, I would say one of the highest of the season up to this point, and it is important to fully understand how this will affect the behavior of the tires and the performance of the car".
