Very difficult qualifying for the Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow in the 66th Monaco Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel will start from the second row, after setting the fourth fastest time, while Charles Leclerc will line up in sixteenth position following his exclusion at the end of the first part of the session.

Q1. Sebastian took to the track immediately to regain confidence with his SF90 after hitting the barriers in the third free practice session, starting with a time of 1'16”624 which was then lowered to 1'13”188; at 1'12”601 and finally at 1'12”335. Charles, on the other hand, achieved 1'12"825 on the first attempt and then dropped to 1'12"149 on the second despite the traffic on the track. At that point Sebastian, who risked being excluded, returned to the track with a new set of tires, qualifying with a time of 1'11”434.

Leclerc was instead kept in the garage to save a set of tyres, a choice that turned out to be the wrong one as the track conditions evolved and the drivers gradually found greater confidence with the track. This allowed several opponents to improve until the Monegasque was excluded from Q2.

Q2 and Q3. In the second part of qualifying, Sebastian initially achieved a 1'11"922, dropping to 1'11"227 on the second flying lap. The weather allowed him to pass the shift without problems. In the decisive phase of qualifying Sebastian immediately achieved a 1'10”947, failing to improve on the second attempt. The German driver will therefore start fourth behind Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen.

Competition. The 66th Monaco Grand Prix, on the ninetieth anniversary of the first edition, will start today at 15.10pm.
