F1 | Ferrari, Alesi: “It will take time, but Vasseur is the right choice”

Vasseur is the right man for Ferrari. Jean Alesi is convinced of this, with the former Cavallino driver underlining how the profile of the former Alfa Romeo team principal is suitable to hold the same position also in Maranello. Alesi, who expressed words of praise towards his compatriot, however wanted to underline how it will take time to allow Vasseur to be able to shape the team in his own image and likeness.

A different situation compared to that of the past, such as occurred in the times of Jean Todt and Michael Schumacher, where technical recruitment was immediate. Contrary to what happens today, where engineers must respect a stop period: the so-called "gardening".

“It will take some time – Alesi told the French Eurosport program Les Fous du Volant – But Fred Vasseur is the right choice. Do an important purchasing campaign as happened in Todt's time and see the results immediately? This is no longer possible in Formula 1. Today, if Adrian Newey decided to go to Ferrari, we wouldn't see his car until 2025 due to the clauses in all contracts. So it will take some time. But I repeat that Fred Vasseur is the right person for this job."

Alesi, completing his analysis, continued to talk about Vasseur and the car: “There is a need for reliability, performance, stability. Vasseur has to put these three things in the order he wants, but that's what has to be done. The team's number 1 is Vasseur. If at the next Grand Prix they said: 'Charles, you are the first driver and Carlos is the second', he would not help in the development process of the car, especially the lack of performance and reliability. That's not the problem, frankly."
