F1 | Cosworth-Aston Martin, discussions underway for an automotive partnership

The streets of Cosworth ed Aston Martin, both willing to return to Formula 1, could cross paths. Bruce Wood, general manager of Cosworth powertrain, in the interview granted to Motorsport reported the interest of both parties in entering into a collaboration: "We would like to work in partnership with them" - He admitted. “We've been working with Aston Martin for a long time, we're also working closely with Red Bull on the Valkyrie, so it would make some sense. Aston Martin has been very clear in saying that it wants to do something more than just put its own stamp on another engine.".

Just in recent days, Wood himself had reiterated Cosworth's desire to return to Formula 1 from 2021, coinciding with the entry into force of the new engine regulations, but only in case of collaboration with another partner.

Cosworth's will, therefore, fits perfectly with that of Aston Martin, which would willingly propose itself as a supplier of engines, presumably of Red Bull, provided a substantial reduction in costs: "Their (Aston Martin, ed.) they don't aspire to design everything themselves, so definitely some discussions in this regard are taking place" – confirmed Wood. “Aston Martin and Red Bull have a very strong relationship, so there is definitely a desire to do something together in the future.”

A possible collaboration, however, could extend the timeframe for returning to Formula 1, from 2021 to 2022: "Joining forces would be in everyone's interest, because no one could take this step alone. This is already a very busy year for us, so the reality is that 2021 could become 2022".
