F1 | Claire Williams on team sale: “Coronavirus ruined all plans”

Interviewed by the British media, Claire Williams explained the sale of the English team to an American investment group, underlining how the Coronavirus has put the former management with its back against a wall, especially from an economic point of view.

Despite the great work carried out over the winter (Williams had managed to secure some new sponsors), the pandemic ruined all plans for 2020, an aspect that forced the former ownership to give in to the lure of some external partners.

Claire Williams and the former owners, we remember, left the helm of command of the team at the end of the last Italian Grand Prix in Monza. An emotional moment that closed a real page in the history of Formula 1.

“We had exhausted every avenue available to us,” revealed Claire Williams. “I thought we were going to turn the corner this year. We had new partners and new ideas to return to the top positions of the ranking, but then everything collapsed. The Coronavirus hit and we found ourselves in an extremely difficult situation. It was game over."
