F1 | Briatore: “Kubica rejected by Williams? I'm very sorry, but Sirotkin has a huge budget."

As already mentioned on several occasions in recent weeks, the Williams has now practically discounted Robert Kubica's candidacy for 2018. The Grove team intends to bet everything on Sergey sirotkin, a 22-year-old Russian without any official experience in the Circus (he has not yet taken part in any qualifications or races) but with exorbitant financial resources, also the result of some links with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The official announcement, barring further delays, should arrive in January.

Flavio Briatore, interviewed by Speed Weed, focused on this market plot, finding the decisive factor in the economic gap between Kubica and Sirotkin: “I am very sorry that Kubica was unable to convince Williams. I have spoken several times with Kubica's manager, Nico Rosberg, and I know that he has been tried everything but the Russian has a huge budget, we're talking about twenty million, Kubica could guarantee between seven and ten" – explained the former Renault boss. "I am very sorry. If Robert had returned to F1, it would have been a great success for the sport: I find it very strange that the F1 officials didn't give him a hand.".
