F1 | Ross Brawn: “Race weekends will continue to be three days”
"Friday's format will be revised but we will leave the rest intact, with qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday", said the sporting director of the Circus
Formula One race weekends will continue to be divided into three days in the future. This was confirmed by the current sporting director of the Circus Ross Brawn.
However, the premier class of motorsport will make some changes to its weekends (like the idea of holding three mini races on Saturday instead of the classic qualifications, ed), with the intention of increasing the spectacle on the track.
"The format is an aspect of the sport that we have focused on in detail as we work towards the rules for the coming years and have taken into account the thoughts of all the key players: promoters, teams and, last but not least, the fans – underlined Brawn in his focus after the Japanese GP -. I'll be honest and say that there was a strong consensus, especially among the organizers, to keep the three-day format of the track activity, albeit with a different calendar. It's true that a day like Sunday at Suzuka offered a great show in just a few hours, but it would limit the races of the previous day".
The sporting director of the Circus then added: “After careful analysis we concluded that the best solution is to keep the event for three days, reviewing the Friday format but leaving the rest intact, with qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday. In order to meet the needs of the teams and in order to slightly increase the number of Grands Prix, which will be 22 next year, we have considered reorganizing the program so that teams and drivers can arrive the next day".
If Brawn's last sentence were to be confirmed by the facts it would lead to the elimination of the classic Thursday press conference between the drivers and the media.
