F1 | Aston Martin, Alonso: “We have made the biggest leap forward with the same rules”

Leaving aside the unreachable Red Bull, which for what it has shown so far on the track is competing in a championship of its own, a special mention at this start of the season goes toAston Martin. After performing well in the winter tests, the Silverstone team confirmed the quality of its technical project in the first two races of the season which saw Fernando Alonso conquer the lowest step of the podium in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The AMR23, modified by 95% compared to the previous single-seater, has made a notable leap forward, going from seventh force of 2022 depending on this first glimpse of the World Championship. A clear leap forward made even more incredible by regulatory stability. A situation analyzed by Alonso, with the two-time world champion underlining the enormous improvements of the English car which, compared to the improvements shown by Ferrari in 2022 or the BrawnGP in 2009, was unable to exploit technical changes.

“Ferrari did very badly in 2020 or even in 2021 – declared Alonso, quoted by Formula1.com – Last year they fought for the championship and won the first two/three GPs. Ferrari took a huge step last year. BrawnGP did it too."

Alonso then added: “With regulatory stability, Aston Martin has probably made the biggest leap. The others have succeeded with new regulations, also with the budget cap it is very difficult to do something like this. But we have very talented people in the team, so far we have done well, hopefully it's just the beginning."
