F1 | Alpine, Alonso invites the team to dedicate themselves to the 2023 single-seater

The Alpine A522 is proving to be an excellent single-seater, with the Enstone team increasingly fourth in the standings on the track and already faster than McLaren for a few races (reached 81 points in the standings in Austria). Nonetheless, Fernando Alonso thinks in the medium-long term, inviting the team not to think too much about updating the current car but to start focusing decisively on next year's car.

According to the Spanish driver, in fact, the only way to have a chance to compete with the strongest teams is to bring forward the work on the next single-seater.

“It's not easy for us to compete with the strongest teams - the words of Alonso to Motrosport.com - Mercedes, for example, has an excellent organization and sooner or later they will be back in the lead. Ours is a medium-long term program and if we want to make a big step forward in my opinion we should start working on the 2023 car as soon as possible to be ready and not compromise the project. Larger teams can work on both the current and next car, for smaller teams this is more complicated. Our current car is good, has no weaknesses, but can be improved in some areas. For example, we suffer in the slower corners, we should improve there."
