F1 | Alesi: “Vettel? With Newey in Ferrari things would have gone differently."

Starting from 2021, Ferrari will launch its youth line in its entirety, having decided in mutual agreement with Sebastian Vettel not to renew the contract expiring at the end of this year and to focus on Carlos Sainz alongside Charles Leclerc.

Jean Alesi expressed his point of view on the German and, interviewed by Sky Sports UK, admitted his disbelief after hearing the news of the current Red standard bearer's future farewell to Maranello.

"I have a lot of respect for Sebastian because he is a four-time world champion. He put his talent to become world champion with Ferrari, but he failed – underlined the former French driver -. He failed, but not because of himself or the team, simply because something went wrong. In fact I was surprised by the fact that he announced that he would leave Ferrari without having started the 2020 season. But this shows that he is courageous and he knows what he will do next year".

Analyzing the Ferrari driver Vettel, Alesi made a comparison with another German: Michael Schumacher, who worked at Ferrari and was supported by the same people with whom he established himself and won at Benetton in the two-year period 1994-95. Which didn't happen for Seb, who arrived in Maranello without the technical team with which he made sparks in Red Bull between 2010 and 2013.

"Michael Schumacher took my place but came with a technical team – underlined Alesi -. He worked with the same people who had made him champion in the past. And despite this it took four years to become champion again. Seb's situation was different, because he wanted to teach the new technical team his way of working. If he had brought Adrian Newey to Ferrari things would have been different".
