F1 | Alesi raises the alarm: “This year will be a nightmare for the kids”

Interviewed by the media on the sponsorship situation, Jean Alesi raised a cry of alarm regarding Formula 2 and the Circus preparation categories, underlining how the economic crisis caused by the Coronavirus emergency has generated more than a few problems for young talents.

According to the Frenchman, few brands are able to sponsor the careers of kids, an aspect that will almost certainly cause quite a few withdrawals already during the current season due to lack of budget. The Frenchman, we remember, had to sell his F40 to guarantee his son a seat in F2.

“This year will be a nightmare,” said Jean Alesi. “We talked about a budget cap, but nothing has been agreed for Formula 2. They haven't changed anything, so I'm sure a lot of drivers won't finish the season. It will be a disastrous year for the riders."

“I am a former F1 driver and have many contacts, but I had to sell my Ferrari F40 to get the budget for my son,” added the Frenchman. "Why? Because it's almost mission impossible to find sponsorships. The costs are high and no one wants to change anything."

“Between having a Ferrari F40 in the garage or seeing my son race, there is no comparison. I'd rather you compete. And after all, I'm too old to drive an F40." he concluded.
