F1 | Eddie Jordan bombshell: “Mercedes could leave at the end of 2018”

In an interview with Auto Bild, Eddie Jordan spoke about the possible arrival of Sebastian Vettel at the court of Mercedes, underlining how he believes a solution of this type is very unlikely.

According to the Englishman, in fact, the Stuttgart team could leave the Circus at the end of the 2018 season, choosing to concentrate on a supplier role (as indeed happened before 2010. ed.).

A choice linked to the fact that in recent championships, especially with the advent of the hybrid, Mercedes has literally dominated the scene, winning title after title, and a "winning" Ferrari could worsen the image that the Brackley Scuderia has created in the last years. In short, a farewell for winners that would not compromise anything in terms of business.

“I don't think Sebastian Vettel can change teams at the end of this season”, said the Englishman on the future of Ferrari's German. “Mercedes could say goodbye to the Circus as a constructor at the end of next year and therefore I don't know how much it suits them to leave Ferrari. They won everything in the last championships and created a winning image, what the board wanted."

On the possible farewell of the world champion Scuderia he added: “They could easily leave at the end of 2018 and concentrate on a construction role as in the past. It's not impossible and I wouldn't underestimate it as an option".
