Ecclestone VS Monza: “Whoever wants to host a race must pay”

For the Monza race there is still a future. Bernie Ecclestone has made himself available to work for the renewal of Formula 1 with the Brianza facility in case a new promoter of the race comes forward. According to some rumours, just last week on the Monaco weekend, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, number one of ACI Italia and Ivan Capelli, would have met Mister E. to talk about the delicate situation that sees the Monza National Autodrome in the eye of the storm. Despite this, the matter is still stalled.

According to some rumors, the 84-year-old Patron of the Circus would have proposed to Monza a contract in all respects similar to the one stipulated with Red Bull for the Austrian Grand Prix, rejecting the criticisms that had been leveled against him where Ecclestone appears more interested in money than in the history of this sport, so much so as to hypothesize that the Italian track could end up like the German Grand Prix: "It is always been like this. Anyone who wants to host a Formula 1 race has to pay but the situation in Monza is that, currently, they don't want to pay a cent. So, in a way, they don't want to either respect tradition“, commented Mister E.

On the occasion of the Monaco Grand Prix and the meeting with Damiani and Capelli, Ecclestone would have proposed a renewal from 20 million euros per year, a figure that according to the management of the system is too high: “I wonder if there is a promoter in Italy who wants to take charge of the organization of the Grand Prix. The European stages have an advantage over those outside the continent given that they pay less than the latter to host Formula 1 – insisted Ecclestone – We are open to anyone who wants to come forward but one thing is clear: the cost will not go down,” he concluded.
