Brawn is confident ahead of the FOTA meeting in Abu Dhabi

Ross Brawn it is certain that FOTA will survive the controversy inherent to the RRA (Resource Restriction Agreement, i.e. the agreement regarding the limitation of resources in F1). This agreement was stipulated to avoid an increase in F1 costs.

Lately, there have been rumors that some teams, including Red Bull and Mercedes GP, had exceeded the established limits. Following these rumors, a general climate of mistrust has swept through the paddock: the teams within FOTA will discuss the RRA this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Ross Brawn said: “We cannot forget why FOTA was born. We need it. Perhaps FOTA needs to understand which area it is best suited to operate in; when discussing agreements that affect the competitiveness of teams, perhaps it is too sensitive an area for FOTA.”

“If we are debating about resources, people and money, it makes me wonder if this is the right area for FOTA. I wonder then if it is not the case that the RRA becomes just a simple agreement between teams."

“I would be very sorry if FOTA were to suffer because of disagreements on the RRA, we need to keep all these things very separate.”

When asked about a possible collapse of FOTA, Brawn replied: “I hope not. If you fail in Abu Dhabi, you need to understand why it failed."

“I am optimistic, although I think there will remain a strong desire to find a solution on the part of many teams and we want this solution to be good for everyone. We could also find a solution approved by the majority, even if not everyone will be happy with it."
