Bomb alert in the paddock in Monaco

Monegasque police detonated a suspicious package at 22pm on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Monaco's traditional party atmosphere was interrupted by the sound of an explosion: mid-evening, Monaco police cordoned off the Formula One paddock area near the media center after a passerby noticed a suspicious package, a white plastic box. After the many onlookers who had gathered were removed, the anti-terrorism experts detonated the alleged device with a controlled explosion, but nothing is known about its composition: according to the news agency the explosion created considerable noise and fragments of white plastic spread over a very wide radius. This is the second consecutive season in which the anti-terrorism unit has been called to the paddock due to a suspicious package ahead of the Monaco GP. A similar event also happened last year, when a backpack with Ferrari colors was found in the Red Bull motorhome.
To continue the bad day in Monte Carlo, it also emerged that some spectators suffered minor injuries due to the collapse, fortunately without consequences, of a grandstand.
