BMW: Heidfeld seventh in Monza, Kubica retired

Nick Heidfeld: seventh
BMW Sauber F1.09-07 / BMW P86/9

"I'm very happy, it was a great race for me. Finishing seventh won't be fantastic, but from 15th position on the grid this was the best I could do today. The start wasn't too good, I almost lost positions. But at the first corner I managed to overtake a car on the outside and at the chicane I went on the inside to overtake Jarno Trulli. On the third lap I overtook Giancarlo Fisichella, and I thought it would be impossible because he has KERS on his car. Then when I was behind Vettel and I started to save fuel. After our stops he was behind me, and I was eighth before Lewis Hamilton crashed on the last lap and I benefited from this by picking up an extra point."

Robert Kubica: DNF after lap 15
BMW Sauber F1.09-08 / BMW P86/9

"I had a great start and was in a pretty good position before the first braking. I was on the left of Mark Webber. I guess he didn't see me at all. Mark pushed me onto the era while I was braking. Although I tried to get back on the track, we touched at the first corner. At Roggia he was on the outside and slightly ahead of me. Unfortunately I wasn't able to avoid him afterwards. I came away with a damaged front wing, but I'm not sure how it happened since it could have happened in the fight with Mark or by hitting a curb. However, I was able to continue and overtake Sebastian Vettel, despite a front wing problem. For safety reasons I had to overtake her a couple of laps later. In the end I retired due to an oil leak."
