Bianchi out of coma but not yet conscious, transferred to Nice

Jules Bianchi's parents, Philippe Christine, provided an update regarding Jules' condition.

“Almost seven weeks after Jules' accident in Suzuka, and after a difficult period in neurological intensive care, we are able to announce that Jules has taken an important step,” the statement read.

“Jules is no longer in an artificially induced coma immediately after the accident, however he is not yet conscious. He is breathing unaided and his vital signs are stable but his condition is still classified as "critical". His treatment enters a new phase as his brain function improves. Jules' neurological condition remains stable. Although the situation continues to be serious, and may remain so, we decided that Jules was stable enough to be repatriated to France. We are relieved to be able to confirm that Jules was airlifted last night from the Mie General Medical Center to Le Center Hospitalier Universitaire in Nice. Jules is now in the intensive care unit of Professors Raucoules and Ichai, where his condition will also be monitored by Professor Paquis, Head of the Neurosurgery Service”.

“We are grateful that the next phase of Jules' treatment can continue close to home, where he can be wrapped up and supported by his large family and friends. We can only thank the fantastic care provided by Mie General Medical Center since the accident. We feel we owe a great debt of gratitude to all the medical staff for everything they did for Jules and also for our family during a very difficult time for us. We would like to extend thanks to doctors Kamei and Yamamichi and also to Mr Ogura, all part of the team who treated Jules in Japan.
