Toyota makes Kobayashi official as test driver for the 2015 WEC world championship
No Formula One for the Japanese driver
Kamui Kobayashi will not return to the wheel of a Formula One car. After starting his adventure in the Super Formula championship, the former Sauber and Caterham driver will continue the development of Toyota's LMP1 prototype for the next 2015 WEC season. An important announcement that allows Kobayashi, after the parenthesis with AF Racing in the GT category, to set foot back into the Endurance world.
The Japanese will take the place of Mike Conway (promoted to starter alongside Stephane Sarrazin and Alex Wurz.ed.) and will take care of the development of the TS040 2015 version up until the great Le Mans classic.
Here are Kobayashi's words: “It's great to be back at Toyota, I'm grateful to the team for giving me this opportunity. I know many components from Toyota's Formula 1 days: it's like coming home. I've already tried the TS040 Hybrid in the Aragon tests and it's impressive, the hybrid technology is really advanced".
