Sauber does not take the continuation of the collaboration with Ferrari for granted

The Swiss team expressed serious doubts regarding the increase in engine supply costs due to the rule change in 2014 (engines will become from V8 to V6).

“It is clear that before considering other avenues we will go to our partner first as we have shared a great history” declared the Sauber chief executive Monisha Kalternborn to the German Motorsport Total website.

“But let's consider all the possibilities, because I think they (Ferrari, ed.) don't yet know what conditions to propose to us.”

With the apparent stop of the Also by Craig Pollock, and with the Cosworth which will abandon the sport at the end of the V8 era, the only possibilities for the Swiss team are Ferrari, Mercedes or Renault.

“It must be clear that the financial aspect is very important to us,” Kaltenborn clarified.

“We don't want to go back to the days when we paid a lot for engines.”

The chief executive also downplayed that Sauber's salvation could be Volkswagen, recently the boss of the team Peter sauber confirmed that he met at the Geneva motorshow chairman of Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn.

“There's not much to say about this meeting. We didn't talk about anything,” concluded Kalterborn.
