Niki Lauda and David Coulthard defend Red Bull's team orders
Ex-F1 drivers Niki Lauda e David Coulthard they defended Red Bull's use of team orders at Silverstone.
Mark Webber he was openly unhappy with these orders, so much so that he even ignored them, refusing to follow through Sebastian Vettel during the final laps of the British Grand Prix.
Despite the orders being legal since Jean Todt is at the FIA as president, Sunday's episode reopened an old debate.
Niki Lauda replied: “All this wasn't wrong at all,” the Austrian told motorsport-magazin.com. “I completely understand Horner having to request this on the radio, because he was worried about his two cars. It is fine for me".
David Coulthard, ex-F1 driver and now consultant for the Red Bull team, agrees with Lauda, even if he understands that there may be some dissent.
“You can't expect teams, with contracts with millionaire sponsors, to risk throwing away precious points at that point in the race.”
However, this gesture by Webber could influence his negotiations for a new contract with Red Bull. Coulthard remains calm in this regard and actually doubts that this reaction could compromise a possible renewal:
"Dietrich Mateschitz he wants a fighter, he wants two guys fighting for wins. He doesn't want pussies”.
