Lauda: “Alonso is not in the running for a seat in Mercedes but never say never”
The Spaniard's contract is expiring
di Staff23 May, 2017
Niki Lauda has denied a possible arrival for Fernando Alonso at Mercedes for next season. Previously Toto Wolff had not ruled out a possible interest from the world champion team for the Spaniard but had underlined the problematic character of the two-time world champion and his difficult coexistence with Lewis Hamilton at McLaren.
Alonso recently said he is evaluating his options for 2018, when his three-year contract with McLaren Honda finally expires. But Lauda told Blick newspaper: “Alonso is definitely not on our list. We are completely satisfied with Hamilton and Bottas. But as my friend Toto Wolff said: never say never."
