Kolles confirms: “Bianchi had a contract with Sauber”
The Swiss team had already assigned a seat to the French ex Marussia
The frightening accident at Suzuka took away the possibility for Jules Bianchi to take to the track with the Sauber colours. The former Marussia Frenchman, top driver of the Ferrari Driver Academy, had in fact signed a contract with the Swiss Scuderia for the 2015 season, all with the support of Ferrari.
As confirmed by Colin Kolles, the French driver, on the morning of the Japanese Grand Prix, met with Sauber top management to sign an agreement in principle for the 2015 season, effectively earning himself his first real opportunity at the wheel of a Formula One car .
The Suzuka accident practically deprived the French driver of a golden seat, also considering the great competitiveness of the C34-Ferrari. An interesting detail of the matter is that in that same period, according to some English media, the Swiss team had already signed Adrian Sutil and Giedo Van Der Garde.
