Ferrari: third race without points

Ferrari: third race without points

Ferrari also concluded the race without points in China. In a race held entirely in the rain, Kimi Raikkonen classified in tenth place while Felipe Massa retired on the twenty-first lap when he was in third position, due to an electronic problem.

Stefano Domenicali: “Today we feel extremely sorry for what happened to Felipe. He was doing an extraordinary race when an electronic problem caused the engine to shut down: at that moment he was third and, even with a lot of fuel on board, he was lapping at the times of the best and could have finished
the race almost certainly on the podium. Kimi changed his strategy by going from two to one stop but was unable to go beyond tenth place: with the first set of tires his pace was decent while with the second he suffered from a constant lack of grip which prevented him to finish in the points. The great
The regret is that, in a technically inferior situation, we did not once again take advantage of the circumstances. Now we have to look at next weekend's race in Bahrain with great realism: the car will be the same even if we try to have the KERS available again. In the meantime, we must work intensively
to bring the aerodynamic innovations to the track at the start of the European season, in Barcelona.”

Felipe Massa: “It's clear that I'm very disappointed and a little worried but my motivation remains total. We must, all together, get out of this situation. We are a united team and we have a great desire to do it again, as soon as possible. Soon we will have to have some important aerodynamic developments but it's true that
we also have to resolve the reliability problems as soon as possible because if we want to be first we have to finish the races first. Today we had a good chance of getting on the podium. I was third and was lapping with the times of the best having a lot of petrol on board to make just one stop. The car behaved well apart from when I was under the safety car: in those conditions, in some moments there seemed to be a drop in power. Then, suddenly, I lost use of the accelerator and the car went silent. I tell our fans not to lose passion: it's a difficult moment but the championship is still long."

Kimi Raikkonen: “At the beginning the situation wasn't bad but then, after the stop, I lost grip in the tires and I was no longer able to push as I wanted because the car was sliding everywhere. Sometimes I lost power in the engine, especially when I was in the wake of other cars but then the problem disappeared on its own. It's clear that the situation in the championship is very difficult now. We made some mistakes and we are not fast enough. In Barcelona, when we have new aerodynamic solutions, we will be able to recover some of the grip that we are missing now. I'm sure we'll be able to get competitive again for the win but this work will take time. The team is motivated, I'm sure of this, and they can do it
we'll give it our all. Now it's easy to criticize us but we know how to get out of it."

Chris Dyer: “We had set the race with the two drivers on two different strategies and, with the rain and the neutralizations, we had managed to be in a good position, in particular with Felipe who, at a certain point, was third with a lot of fuel on board. Unfortunately, a software management problem caused his engine to stall and forced him to stop. It's a real shame, because he could have achieved a nice result. Kimi complained from the start about the poor visibility in the wake and, occasionally, about drops in engine power caused by the water, but, above all, he suffered from a lack of grip after his stop - in the meantime we had changed his strategy – and he couldn't get beyond tenth place. Once again we had reliability problems that prevented us from picking up some valuable points.”
