F1 | Sainz believes in Ferrari: “The only team that can turn things around quickly”

Carlos Sainz made no secret that he was annoyed several times when they asked him if he regretted signing for Ferrari, given the Ferrari's crisis in 2020.

The Spanish driver leaves a McLaren in brilliant form and growing greatly to embrace the cause of Maranello, a team that objectively appeared to be in great difficulty in a 2020 lacking in satisfactions, annus horribilis which has already been discussed at length.

What is important to underline is the trust that the new Ferrari driver places in the Scuderia's resilience, that ability to get back up quickly after dark moments, admired many times in the long history of the Cavallino.

Sainz believes that Ferrari is the only team, due to its history and resources, capable of turning things around quickly and is confident that 2021 - a year of transition towards the regulatory revolution - could already be significantly different from 2020.

On the other hand, Ferrari had already shown timid progress from an aerodynamic point of view in the past season, but remained fatally condemned by the paucity of its power unit, with the SF1000 literally humiliated on the motor tracks. It is no mystery that to get back on top the first ingredient not to be missed in the future package will be the engine itself, there the fundamental game is played to bring that third place that Binotto defined “the natural minimum objective for a team like ours".

“The multiple insinuations about the mistake of going to Ferrari were annoying, because it seems that everyone is convinced that in 2021 Ferrari will be as bad as in 2020 when in F1 you can never make predictions - so said Carlos Sainz to Autosport - It is clear that Ferrari disappointed in 2020, the team knows this first and foremost, but the same cannot already be said about 2021. I have a two-year agreement with the Cavallino, and 2022 will be a totally new year for everyone and certainly more important than this. Luckily I never said anything I regretted, but it was annoying to be asked the same question over and over again. From the outside, without driving the car, it seems to me that the Red has improved anyway, I was happy to see that they were making progress."

Once again, Carlos demonstrates that he holds the potential of Maranello in very high regard, the only team in his opinion capable of catching up and raising its head quickly:

“I've always said this; for me if there is a team that can quickly change things in Formula 1 it is Ferrari. Of course, today's Mercedes could do it, but Ferrari more than anyone else. Its history, the people who work there, the resources available say so. And I'm happy to see that this improvement has already begun" concluded the Ferrari driver.
