F1 Test | Mercedes, Hamilton: “Overall it was a good day”

Mercedes closed the second day of pre-season testing at Montmeló setting the sixth fastest time with Valtteri Bottas and the tenth with Lewis Hamilton, covering 163 laps in total (89 laps for the Finn, 74 for the Englishman. Ed.). Even today the Brackley team continued their aerodynamic and setup program, as well as the various system checks on the W10.

"Overall it was a good day. This morning it was quite cold and other teams were also having problems with the tyres. We will try to increase our mileage over the next few days as we continue discovering the features of the car which is the most exciting part. I am very happy to be here for the seventh consecutive year and I am excited for this journey we are embarking on,” Hamilton said.

"We've done a lot of laps and we're improving the setup of the W10 with every run. There is still some room for improvement, as can be seen from the lap times. We focused on long-distance work. I'll be in the car tomorrow morning, this will be a busy evening for myself who will have to take advantage of the work done today on the track: so far it's been a fairly normal test, fortunately the car has been very reliable and that's good news”, said Bottas.

"We have only raced for two days, even though we are already a quarter of the way through these winter tests. Today was another very useful day for us, where we accumulated a lot of kilometers testing many components and various setups with both riders. The car had no problems all day and we continued to learn more about how the tires and the car itself work. This allows us to have a basis for the second test”, the thoughts of technical director James Allison.
