F1 | Haas, Steiner: “Saturday's qualifying reflects the entire season”

For the first time in the history of Formula 1, two consecutive races will be held on the same circuit just seven days apart. This will represent a great advantage, in terms of set-up, solutions to be adopted in view of qualifying and the race, but also to resolve those problems that appeared on the single-seaters during the opening weekend of the season. And so it will also be for Haas, which had to conclude the Austrian Grand Prix with a double retirement, due to an overheating problem which compromised the correct functioning of the brakes.

"We will continue to work on the car to increase our race pace and be able to give our best. We must reduce mistakes and we can only do this by understanding the ones we have already made. Hard work, it's the only way out of this situation” these are the words of team principal Guenther Steiner on the eve of the second race on the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg.

“There is enough time to review all the data collected during the first weekend because, obviously, all our engineers remained here. It's not the ideal situation, you always want more time, but in the end we won't have that much this year, with a season only five months long. In my opinion we have to continue like this and we will find the time, and maybe we will be able to improve ourselves already during this weekend".

According to the team principal, it is the qualifying that we must look at to understand where each team actually is in terms of performance and speed rather than the Sunday standings, characterized by too many events and Safety Cars.

"The race was obviously dramatic for many teams and drivers. I think the qualification explains better what everyone's performances are. I think we will fight to get into Q2, it's not much, but we will have to be satisfied. Mercedes and the customer teams are still dominant, and I believe that this will not change during the rest of the season” concluded Steiner.
