F1 | Alonso on Hamilton's 300 GP: "He was an exceptional driver and a legend of our sport"

The French Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship which will take place this Sunday on the Paul Ricard track, will allow Lewis Hamilton to reach the historic milestone of 300 GPs.

An important event marked in a fifteen-year Formula 1 career that began in 2007 at McLaren, where the then young English talent shared the garage with Fernando Alonso.

The Spaniard wanted to celebrate the seven-time world champion, underlining how the current Mercedes standard bearer has not undergone radical changes since then, immediately showing what it takes to compete at high levels.

"I don't think much has changed to be honest – declared Alonso, quoted by Formula1.com – He had the talent already in 2007 and he still has it now, but with experience. He was an exceptional driver and a legend of our sport. It was always a pleasure to share all this time with him and at the time, probably, no one thought that he would be able to win seven titles like Michael Schumacher did. The journey has been fantastic and the team that everyone has built at Mercedes over the years has been exceptional. Congratulations on the 300th race and hopefully another win soon".
