F1 | Alesi on Ferrari's 2022: "Unwatchable on a strategic level"

The 2022 of Ferrari was represented by ups and downs that did not allow the Maranello team to be able to fight to the end with Red Bull and Max Verstappen in their respective world championship battles. Among the negative aspects that characterized Maranello's last season were the strategic errors that actually compromised a large number of races. An aspect on which he focused Jean Alesi, with the former Red rider underlining how these problems must be resolved in view of the new championship.

Alesi also discussed the change between Mattia Binotto and Frederic Vasseur, with the French manager leaving Alfa Romeo to become the new team principal of the Red. Vasseur, in Alesi's opinion, must be guided by his compatriot Mekies to know in detail the situation the team is in, understanding where to make changes and where to leave stability.

“We have to be honest, on a strategic level Ferrari was unwatchable last year – declared Alesi, interviewed by Autosprint – Things absolutely have to change, otherwise there is no way out for the team. I think Vasseur has to rely a lot on Laurent Mekies. Mekies has been at Ferrari for years and can be the ideal person for Vasseur to see where things need to be changed and what, on the contrary, should remain the same because there is potential."

Alesi, continuing with his analysis, however admitted that the heart of Ferrari must remain Italian: “If you tell me that Ferrari will or should speak more and more French, I immediately say no. Maranello is Italian. You must speak Italian and only Italian. I drove for the Scuderia and there I experienced the best moments of my career."
