Button frustrated and Alonso cautious after the tests

Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button made their debut yesterday behind the wheel of the new cars but the reactions were different.

Button's first outing with McLaren was delayed due to him being 7cm more than Lewis Hamilton which caused difficulties in adjusting the seat position. When he entered the track the driver had not yet found the most suitable driving position.

The Brit set only the tenth fastest lap of the day and was significantly overtaken by Hamilton, who had driven the same MP4-25 the day before.

“These tests are used to get used to the team, to the environment inside the cockpit and to carry out all the checks that are done at the first test,” said the thirty-year-old, who did not want to define the car as “excellent”.

“There's still a lot of work to do before I can say that,” he added.

Regarding Ferrari's dominance during testing, Button didn't give it importance.

“The Ferraris are going strong but we don't know exactly how much. You never know how much gas they had on board when they marked those times,” she said.

Fernando Alonso also tried to downplay the excellent performance of the F10, despite the Spaniard setting the fastest lap of the three days of testing.

“I'm happy with the car but I'm still cautious,” he said.

“Maybe we set the fastest lap in the three days of testing because we had less fuel on board,” added Alonso. “Anyway, I found the F10 to be an easy car to drive and I feel good about it.”

The Spanish press then quoted a statement from the driver in which he said he had not "extracted 100%" from the car in Valencia.
