Button: “Today we had a better pace than what we achieved”
Gear problems affected the Italian GP of the McLaren driver who finished 10th
After the beautiful weekend in Belgium (where Jenson Button had obtained a good sixth place), in Monza McLaren she found herself taking a step back. Only Button managed to pick up a point, finishing tenth Italian GP, Sergio Perez, however, finished outside the top ten.
“It was a difficult race but I think we had a better race pace today than the tenth place we achieved”, commented the British driver.
“Every time, however, we got close to someone we couldn't overtake them, so it happened with the Toro Rosso. The straight line speeds increased, but our gears were too short, so much so that with the DRS open, I reached 331 km/h, while the others overtook me at 340", Button explained.
“It wasn't a good race and we deserved more than 12th place. Unfortunately, I got hit at the first chicane and went wide,” he said of the contact with Raikkonen.
“During the race I battled with Daniel's Toro Rosso and in general my car was faster than his, but on the straights I couldn't get close. At the pit stop I lost a position because we weren't quick enough when changing tires. Then, when I got back on the track I found myself in traffic and my race practically ended there."he concluded.
