Williams F1: positive day of testing in Jerez

F1 testing in Jerez – Positive day for the team Williams in the first pre-season test on the Jerez circuit. Valtteri Bottas took to the track with the new one Williams FW37.

Rod Nelson, Head of Testing and Technical Support: “We had a normal day of winter testing today and the guys solved all the problems that arose. We lost some time this morning, but once on track, Valtteri completed 73 laps. We have new hardware on the car and there is a new powertrain, and all of these need to be checked and tested, at the moment we have started to evaluate their correct functioning before we start looking at the performance. Jerez is not too representative for the abrasive surface, this limits the amount of useful performance work we can do. We are very satisfied with the first day and can't wait to test again tomorrow.”

Valtteri Bottas: “The day started a little slow, but ended very well. After the first set-back we didn't have a single problem with the FW37, which is impressive for the first day with a new car. We started doing short and long runs. The car has been consistent, so it's a really good start to the week and we're pleased that we've taken another step forward compared to the car we had at the end of last season. We know we have a lot to learn and improve, but we also know where these gains can go, and the work to be done with the car's performance and power unit. There are a lot of strong points in this car and we made good progress in just one day, so I'm very happy.”
