Williams, Adam Parr: “It's too late to change the Formula 1 calendar”

Adam Parr, Williams CEO, says it is too late to change the Formula 1 calendar and find a place for the Bahrain Grand Prix, even more unlikely than the possible return of the race.

The FIA has decided to reinstate the Sakhir race, scheduled to be the first race of the season, and has assigned it the date of 30 October, originally reserved for the inaugural Indian GP.

The race in India is scheduled for the weekend of December 11th, if Bahrain takes place.

Parr said, however, that it is impossible to change the calendar now and added that there is "nothing more to talk about."

To change the schedule, all teams must agree unanimously.

“It's not about whether the race happens, it's about whether we change the calendar at this stage of the season and that's what we've written about it,” Parr told Reuters.

“The issue that concerns us is that the fans, the sponsors, the teams, have made logistical arrangements to be in India for a particular weekend, October 30, and we have presented a calendar where it is now December 11.”

“How do you say to people who have booked a two-week holiday in India to watch the Grand Prix, 'we're sorry you'll be in India, but we're not there'. We have explained our position… and there is nothing left to talk about. It's too late to change it.”

Williams driver Rubens Barrichello admitted he was shocked that the FIA reinstated the race.

“During the season, there was talk of having Bahrain at its best after the first two races, but now I really think that the conditions are no longer there for us to return to Bahrain,” Barrichello told Reuters.

“So it was a shock when I saw that Formula 1 agreed to go back there.”
