Whiting: “Starting from a standstill is a McLaren idea”
The race director denies the danger of the 2015 procedure and praises the Sochi route
The rule of restarting from a standstill after the safety car which will become reality starting from next year would not be the province's business FIA but of a stable. The race director admitted it Charlie whiting speaking to the official website of the Russian GP.
“The suggestion actually came to me from a team – he reported – One day I was discussing with someone the McLaren and it emerged that the most loved and exciting moment for the public is the start, so we asked ourselves why not create a second one. At that point we proposed it to the others and everyone agreed. I don't understand the reason for so many doubts on the part of the professionals, if it were so dangerous there wouldn't even be a first green light."
Afterwards, commenting on the Sochi track which will host a world championship race in October, the Englishman continued: “The last time I visited the facility it was still a construction site, but now it is really beautiful. As a track it is very fast and competitive and has two or three useful points for overtaking. I'm sure the pilots will be thrilled. I feel like promoting it also from a safety point of view. Truly excellent."
