Webber, the sweetest victory

Australian Mark Webber admitted his British Grand Prix victory tasted sweeter after Red Bull favored Sebastian Vettel before qualifying. In fact, the Austrian team, with a controversial decision, assigned Vettel the front wing that was mounted on Webber's car shortly before the start of official qualifying on Saturday.

Although team manager Christian Horner insisted several times that the differences between the two wings were insignificant, some sources revealed that there was in fact a difference in weight and lap time between the two versions.

Webber vented after yesterday's victory by stating that he would never have signed a contract renewal with Red Bull if he had known that this would be the treatment he would have been given.

On his official website, the driver wrote that it was impossible to prove that the difference between the two wings had cost him pole position, but admitted that the victory had a special flavor due to favoritism towards his teammate.

“I don't know to what extent the difference between us in qualifying was caused by the winger,” Webber said. “But the situation was far from ideal and that made my victory even sweeter.”
