Webber: “The memory of this pole will be unforgettable”

Mark Webber has said that his pole lap in the Japanese Grand Prix will be an unforgettable memory for him from his final Formula 1 season.

The Australian beat teammate Sebastian Vettel in his Red Bull in qualifying for the first time all season at Suzuka, claiming his first pole of 2013.

“It's a nice farewell to take pole on my last attempt at Suzuka, a phenomenal track,” said Webber.

“I will never forget the first sector today.”

Vettel's conquest of pole was hampered by KERS malfunctions during qualifying, but Webber doesn't think this penalized his teammate.

Webber is convinced his pole is not in doubt by the stewards, following an accident with Sergio Perez's McLaren in Q2.

“The engineers told me he had finished his lap so I could pull in front of him,” Webber said.

“If he was on a fast lap I would have stepped aside.”
