Volkswagen in F1 only with lower costs
di F1 editorial team8 October 2009
A member of the Audi brand has hinted that the Volkswagen Group could consider entering Formula 1 only if the premier category continues to implement cost-cutting measures.
Reinhold Carl, managing director of Audi Singapore, told the Straits Times that despite the reduction in budgets, the teams currently still have to "disburse over 100 million euros" per year.
After the farewell of Jaguar, Honda, BMW and the possible abandonment of Toyota and Renault, according to Carl the advantages of participating in Grands Prix remain doubtful.
If the German group chooses to race in F1 it will do so with a brand including Porsche, Audi or "even Volkswagen".
