Vettel: “Red Bull, a perfect qualifying”

For Sebastian Vettel the qualifying session of the F1 Singapore GP was "perfect". The German took his 11th pole of the season to move closer to his second title and beat his teammate Mark Webber by more than three tenths.

“On the last lap I dared a little too much at the turn 10 chicane” declared Vettel. “I decided to abort the lap so as not to risk damaging the car. I was happy with my first lap but towards the end there was room for improvement. However it was a perfect session, overall. This circuit is a big challenge with so many corners, it's a long lap and it's difficult to put everything together. We learned from the mistakes made in qualifying last year and remained calm. It's fantastic to have both cars on the front row today, we'll see tomorrow."

With today's pole, Vettel is only three more poles away from equaling the number of pole starts in a season.

“I think it's really exceptional,” he said of Mansell's record. “It was 1992, it was an incredible year for Nigel. We haven't done badly this year, but it would be wrong to start thinking about these things. It will be a long race tomorrow, that's where the points are scored, not in qualifying. Every single race is another step forward for us. Let's try to focus on every single moment. We have to keep doing what we're doing, and it's not easy to do that every weekend. The race is tomorrow and we have to stay focused. I still believe Nigel's record is exceptional."
