Vettel: “The car was truly phenomenal!”

Forty-seventh pole position for Sebastian Vettel, the first a Sochi, in a weekend that immediately said well to the Ferrari. With the front row all Red in Russian GP , the German is preparing for a new lead in the general classification over his rival Mercedes. Here are his statements at the press conference.

“The session started quite well for me, I felt comfortable, but then I think in Q2 I got into the rhythm a little bit and then my last attempt went badly, I crashed and so did the first attempt in Q3 it wasn't very clean. I left everything to the last minute and did a good lap: I improved in the last sector, making up some time compared to the previous lap. I knew it would be a close battle: I was the first to cross the finish line and I was faster than Kimi. I was aware of being in front of him at the time but then I opened the radio and asked what the others had done; my race engineer told me they were finishing the lap… After that I knew that Valtteri had failed to improve and that pole was mine. I was over the moon!”

“Many thanks to the team, the car was truly phenomenal this afternoon. It's really a pleasure to push it to the limit with low fuel load, a fantastic feeling. Having both cars on the front row is the result of teamwork. However, we have the main task tomorrow, in the meantime we have made an important step and managed to improve a little. Let's enjoy this moment but in a couple of hours we'll start focusing on the race,” concluded the German Ferrari.
