Vettel: “Delighted to have won again at Spa”

Sebastian Vettel won the Belgian F1 GP in an authoritative manner, ahead of Fernando Alonso who is now his closest pursuer in the world championship standings, trailing by as many as 46 points. Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen are further behind the Spaniard by 12 and 17 points respectively.

But Vettel declared that he is aiming to enjoy every race by aiming for the maximum result rather than just looking at the standings: “Certainly having increased the lead is excellent news, but I am happier to have won the race” declared Vettel.

“It's a fantastic track. When the car works well you would never want to be stopped. When the car became lighter I was happy with the hard tires and the car was pleasant to drive. I didn't think about championship points. I know the further you finish the better... But this is a fantastic circuit and now I have another great memory. That's all I focused on. Regarding the championship, there is still a long way to go."

According to Red Bull's technical director, Adrian Newey, the best of Vettel has not yet been seen and he is a driver who is continually improving: “It's nice of Adrian to hear this. It was a great day, the team worked fantastically yesterday and today on the track and on the wall. Today the result was incredible, we didn't expect such a victory but obviously we welcome this result with enthusiasm. Raikkonen out of action with today's retirement? I don't think so, he's only 63 points behind”.

Then a comment on his future teammate: “I don't know if Ricciardo will be my new teammate. Is it already decided? I'm close to Helmut and Christian but as far as I know it hasn't been decided yet."
