Vatanen candidate for FIA presidency
di F1 editorial team11 July 2009
Ari Vatanen announced on Friday that he intends to run as Max Mosley's successor as FIA president in elections to be held in a few months. The 1981 world rally champion and Dakar winner, now 57, said his decision was supported "by many FIA clubs".
Above all, AAA of America and the German ADAC would support Vatanen.
“I think it's time for a change,” Vatanen said. It is not clear whether the Finn, who was not re-elected to the European Parliament last month, will run against Mosley in the elections at the end of October or the Englishman will step aside: "I am focused on reconciling the FIA and bringing transparency " Vatanen added.
