Van der Garde gives up the Sauber wheel at least for Australia
The Dutchman will continue his legal battle anyway
He had asked the court in Victoria, Australia, to confiscate the company's assets Clean and to condemn the boss Monisha Kaltenborn of contempt of the Court for not having put into practice what was decreed in recent days. In the end Giedo van der Garde opted for the least traumatic route and stepped aside, at least for now.
“In respect of the interests of motorsport and F1 specifically, therefore of the Hinwil team, of the FIA and of Marcus Ericcson and Felipe Nasr, I have decided to renounce the right to take part in the Melbourne GP scheduled for the weekend – we read on the official document drawn up by the Dutchman's lawyer Jim Peters – As a passionate driver it was difficult to make this choice. Having said that, in the next few weeks, together with my management and the team, we will look for a solution which we will then make public."
So if at the moment the line-up of the Swiss team remains as announced, there could be some surprises in the races to come.
