A new helmet for Fernando Alonso for the Monaco GP

A few hours before the free practice session that will officially inaugurate the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, the helmet that Fernando Alonso wanted to customize for the special occasion was shown live to the experts. Unveiled in preview on Twitter, this new version in white and gold is dedicated to the Principality and gambling, as well as to some of the numbers linked to his life and the history of the Scuderia, represented by a Ferrari 158, the car that after making his debut in the 1964 Monegasque Grand Prix he led the English driver John Surtees to victory in the World Championship.

A strong emotional value for the Asturian pilot, who on the helmet destined for a charity auction in favor of the projects to spread road safety among children created by the Foundation named after him, wanted to mix sacred and 'profane' elements. On the top, cards, dice, chips, roulette and a yacht next to the redhead's drawing. The writing “Bet on red” is also dedicated to his Ferrari, located on the back of the helmet. The dearest meaning is linked to a coin depicting the Cross of Victory – a jewel of pre-Romanesque Asturian art, preserved in the Sacristy of the Cathedral of the Savior in Oviedo and which has become the symbol of Asturias – and bearing the Latin inscription “Hoc tuetur Segno Pio. Hoc vincitur senso inimicus” (“By this sign the pious will be protected. By this sign the enemy will be defeated”). Among the numbers, starting from the bottom, 5, number of Alonso's car, 14, his special number, 19, number of his fastest laps and corners in Monaco, 20, his pole positions in Formula 1 , the 27th, the day on which the race takes place this year, the 28th, the victories in Formula 1, the 30th, his age, the 70th, as the seventieth birthday of the Monaco Grand Prix, the 75th, number of podiums in Formula 1, 78, the laps of the race.
