Tung will drive Renault in free practice on Friday

Ho-Pin Tung is ready to make his debut at the wheel of Renault. Last week, the World Motor Sport Council approved a temporary super license for the Dutch-born driver who races under a Chinese licence.

Tung was in the running to take up a starting place at Renault in 2010 until the last moment due to his connection with the new owners of the Enstone team, but in the end Vitaly Petrov's candidacy prevailed and the twenty-seven-year-old driver had to settle for another season in GP2.

However, Tung has secured a test driver contract with the French manufacturer and, according to information from the Finnish newspaper Torun Sanomat, he would be ready to drive the R30 during Friday's free practice for the next Grand Prix, at Silverstone.

Tung will be the first Chinese driver in history to participate in an F1 race weekend.
