Three manufacturers interested in entering F1 after 2013
Three car manufacturers have been named in connection with an entry into F1 in 2013, when the current powertrain formula will change.
Jean-Francois Caubet, director of Renault Sport F1, said that "Volkswagen, Honda and Hyundai" could participate when the current 8-litre V2.4s are replaced by turbocharged four-cylinder engines.
His comments are a further sign that manufacturers support the greener rules for 2013 proposed by the FIA, while Bernie Ecclestone fears that spectators and sponsors will not appreciate the loss of sound from current engines.
The aforementioned three, according to Caubet, will be able to carefully observe the application of the new formula in 2013 and then make a decision.
“I don't think they will come in the first year, because it would be difficult for a car manufacturer. Maybe later,” he told motorsport-total.
