Toro Rosso: Vergne, “We have a good car but now we need to solve the various problems”

Jean-Eric Vergne with his STR9 made the last pre-Melbourne outing, as this was the twelfth and final day of winter testing for all teams in Bahrain. This morning, the Frenchman's worksheet included an evaluation of the suspension changes as well as work aimed at improving the handling of the package. The results were positive. After which he carried out an evaluation with three Pirelli compounds – medium, soft and Supersoft – in rapid succession. In the afternoon, he did some long runs. JEV set his best time in the middle of the day, when the track was hottest and slowest.

Jean-Eric Vergne: “These last twelve days have been very interesting in many ways. I would describe today as positive and we did a good job, especially in the morning, when we did everything we had planned to do, without a hitch. This afternoon was slightly more complicated, but we still managed to get some mileage in race setup and learned a lot. I had a great feeling with the car today. These winter tests have not been easy, but we are not alone in this. Even if there is no further evidence, I know the team can work hard with our partners and resolve many of these issues in time for Melbourne. The really good thing is that I feel like I have a good car, so once everything is sorted out, I'm sure we can be strong in the race.”
